Oh Baltimore, you are so steamy, I mean dreamy, today. Okay, really steamy! I am thinking it is going to be a big hair, don’t care kind of day. Hope your weekend is off to an amazing start and you are staying cool! Today’s blog post is two-fold; while I am talking about some of my favorite athletic/athleisure wear finds on the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale (going on through tomorrow, June 6th), I am going to, first, talk about the breather I took from working out over the last week and why it’s OKAY to give yourself the “time out.” I like to call this my “reset to workout” and not to be confused with the DIY program 2 Health Nuts offers, “Workout-2-Reset.” More on that in a moment.
I chatted on my Instastories earlier that today was the 1st day I had worked out in a little over a week. While life and schedules through a bit of a kink in my usual routine, it, actually, was more of a decision to take a step back.
As an advocate of staying consistent, and more not being better – just doing your best every single day – there are, also, times when I feel that my workouts are not “fueling” me anymore.
They become a chore. Not fun. Basically, half assed.
And, let me just say, I don’t want to feel like I am just going through the motions to get in a workout. I want to feel confident, empowered, and that I gave it my all. Feeling stressed and defeated are not the way you want to go into, or come out of, a workout. This mindset is how I had been feeling for a few weeks…okay, maybe even months.
This is why I decided to give myself a break and let my body tell me when it was ready to get back to it. I even ate a bit out of my norm as a way to “relax” with what can sometimes feel as too much rigidity. Please don’t take that as anything more than me being a creature of habit.
Although I was “ready” (mentally) to get back in the game a few days in, I knew, physically, that I needed more time. So that is what I did. And, you know what? All in all, my workout felt pretty darn good. I paced myself, eased into it, did nothing too crazy but it felt AMAZING.
It reminded me why I love it!
Again, while consistency will always be something I advocate, I am a huge proponent of listening to your body and taking the time it needs. We are all unique, and we are all individual. There are ebbs and flows we go through in life, and we just have to navigate accordingly.
Most importantly, be kind to yourself. You are not weak – or lazy – by taking the time you need for YOU. Actually, it shows a great amount of confidence and knowing you are always one workout (or meal) to being back in your power.
The power that fuels you to be your very best and to become a better version of your current self.
