It’s 5:00 am on a Saturday morning and, YES, I am sitting in front of my computer, in a sleep trance, trying to figure out what day it is – LOL – shake off the less than 5 hours of sleep, and getting prepped for my work day. Don’t worry, a big cup of coffee is in hand! And, yes, today, I may be talking about defining my daily routine for success.
I am, definitely, like my parents when it comes to work – “rise early (within reason) and get shit done.” Side Note: I am not quoting my parents. I am sure when my Mom & Dad read this they will remind me that I was the one who has enlightened them on the terminology of “get shit done,” “sh*t is getting real,” “that is so bougie,” “people don’t forget” (ah, yes, Superbad?), and, well, I could keep going.
I do some of my best writing in the wee hours of o’dark thirty but I also find that I check things off my list a little quicker. With all my years as a personal trainer, I recognize that (early) morning clients, as well as my, personal workouts, are a lot more #fit4janine. Although I have, significantly, cut this back over the years, I have it streamlined to one day a week where I have client(s) in the evening.
Generally, after 5:00 pm, I need to “turn it off” as best I can. Social media is always rocking and on-going but as far as emails, content writing, and anything else that takes an extra bit of mental energy, I put on the list for the next day. Yes, I do have “free” time during my week BUT 9 times out of 10 something comes down the pike that pulls me in another direction and, before I know it, the day, and week, are gone!
It’s that “stop and start” that drives me bat shit crazy; you know, that unproductive feeling. This is why the morning hours give me that sense of accomplishment. I can move on with my day and feel like I have done “something;” not just feel BUSY.
According to John Maxwell, “the secret to success is found in your daily routine” and “small disciplines repeated with consistency every day lead to great achievements gained slowly over time.”
For me, whether this is in my day-to-day “to-do” lists, my workouts, my business, my travel, or even getting up at 5:00 am to get focused, aligned, and be productive, then this is exactly what I am going to do. And, no, I do not advocate losing precious sleep to get work accomplished!
However you define your daily routine for success, no matter how big or small, do it every single day and do it to the best of your ability!
Trust me, it will pay you dividends in the long run, even if for your sanity to start!
