Hello Sunday Funday, and what better way to kick off the start to the week than with something fabulous like a hot buttered rum. The inspiration to make this drink came from being it “National Hot Buttered Rum Day,” and, needless to say, it has been the “hot” drink as of late!
This was the 1st time I had tried and, all I have to say, is I am smitten. In fact, as I sipped, I dreamt of snowy nights, ski chalet’s, and sitting among a roaring fire. Yes, a girl can dream!
What I like to think is my “secret ingredient” is the dark vanilla rum liqueur I purchase from St. Maarten’s.
Since most recipes call for vanilla extract/bean, in addition to the MUST dark rum, this seemed like such a perfect fit, and paying homage to my happy place!
I admit, I was a little apprehensive with the whole butter aspect but, you know what, you could barely tell and it was DELICIOUS! It is, definitely an after dinner or afternoon treat, although I enjoyed during a business meeting among appetizers. And maybe because it was when I was creating as well.
Yes, my team gets to sample all of the goodies!
I could, totally, see this with some yummy vanilla bean ice cream, or baked pears with honey and nuts. While the drink is sweet enough for me – although not super sweet – the addition of some other fun treats would be the perfect compliment to this drink!
Take a peek at this ridiculously easy recipe that will be a crowd pleaser to all! It’s warm, comforting, and did I mention it would be wonderful in front of a roaring fire?
I would love to know what you think! Make sure to tag @janineserioofficial on Instagram and Facebook if you try the recipe!
Cheers!

Hot Buttered Rum
Ingredients
Instructions
Let's start by preparing the butter mixture. This will yield a LOT so you can save for future cocktails! Make sure the ghee butter is softened, and mix together with coconut sugar and all spice. If you want, you can use cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, etc. in lieu. Combine well.
In a glass mug, or Irish Coffee mug, combine butter (anywhere from 1-2 tbsp.) and the dark rum liqueur. I tend to go boozier with my drinks, so you can add anywhere from 2-3 oz.
Pour 5-6 oz. of hot water on top, mixing well.
Garnish with a cinnamon stick and/or a dried orange slice for a little added zest!
